
Chwa Nim Abaj, also known as Mixco Viejo seems to have been built at the beginning of the XII century on the top of a hill surrounded by ravines.
It is estimated that came to have a population of 10,000 inhabitants at the beginning of the SIXTEENTH century. It was conquered and destroyed by the troops of Pedro de Alvarado in 1525, after a siege of more than three months. The battle to conquer it was a pretty bloody and the spaniards suffered several casualties during the time that it lasted.
