
Jasaw Chan K’awiil was one of the greatest kings of #Tikal.
The city of Tikal received a catastrophic defeat in the year 562D.C. of the hands of their greatest enemies of the Kingdom of the Snake. They defeat it sank in 130 years of crisis and instability.
However, in the year 682, Jasaw Chan K’awiil began a series of reforms that would lead to Tikal to a new golden era. During this time, Tikal would take revenge is the kingdom of the Snake and dominate the maya area again.
The temple of The Great Jaguar (image 1) served as his tomb, while the temple of the Masks (image 2) served as the tomb of his wife.
