The temple of Kukulkan, in Chichen Itza, shows the profound knowledge of mathematics, geometry, acoustics, and astronomy, which the maya possessed.
As such, the temple is dedicated to the passage of time and the mayan calendars, each one of the decorative aspects of this pyramid has a correlation geometry or mathematics with at least a calendar.
Here some interesting examples: – The temple has four stairways, each with 91 steps. This adds up to 364 and if we add the upper platform of the temple we have a total of 365 units, which are the days of the solar calendar. – In the pavilion of the top of the pyramid there were five ornaments on each façade; these were 20-ornaments representing the 20 glyphs of the sacred calendar of the mayas. – As ornamentation, the building has 260 quadrangles, which coincide with the totality of days in the sacred calendar Tzolkin, which in turn, are the days that a human being takes to take shape in the womb. – The alignment, in which is located the pyramid makes each equinox or solstice, is to create effects of light and shadow
