The maya were notable sculptors. With materials such as stone and plaster, created figures in relief, which were used as ornaments of its main buildings, stairs, columns and lintels. Almost all of the figures represented on the rulers and their lineages, as well as supernatural beings associated with major cosmic events and mythical.
Many of these sculptures was authentic documents describing -and illustrated – history of the characters of the nobility or of the supernatural world. In this way,the sculpture of the maya was intimately linked to the writing.
The maya also worked sculpture, bulk, made in other materials, such as plaster and ceramics. What more sculpted the maya was the human figure but also liked to model plants, animals, and mythological creatures such as the feathered serpent, the monsters terrestrial, the K’inich Ahaw, and the birds of heaven.
