Temple V is one of the most striking buildings around the city. It has a height of 57 meters, which makes it the second tallest structure in Tikal.
However, its history is quite mysterious, inside the pyramid they found a burial of a ruler are quite young which is not clear or its name, or its role in mayan history.
It is the only building around Tikal has round tips, which was not very common in the area, and what it calls more attention: it seems to have been abandoned very early on, while Tikal was still a flourishing town.
All the other main temples of Tikal were connected to the network of sacbé or roads of the city, however, the Temple V was an exception. This may indicate that it had already been abandoned or that he was in a poor state, which possibly explains the poor condition of this temple when it was found, in comparison with the other major city.
