Stele of the classic maya plundered

This beautiful trail of the classic maya, it was plundered and are currently located in the Princeton University Art Museum. Although it is unknown where it comes from is known that it had to be somewhere between Guatemala and Belize.

The scene which it represents is extremely interesting, it shows a young prince making his first self-sacrifice of blood. These sacrifices consisted make you bleed any part of the body, impregnated papers with this blood and then burn it. The smoke of that burning was said there was a snake, which could establish a contact with the ancestors. As we can see, the prince is holding a snake whose mouth comes off the face of a person.

The prince is wearing a mask of Chaac, the rain god, we know that it is Chaac by their eyes, in the form of a whirlwind, and his curling mustache, and the tooth of the shark coming out of his mouth.

Another interesting issue of this thread is that it seems to have been made a long time after the ceremony represented, it is likely that the son or grandson of this prince has commanded you to do to commemorate or enlarge their family.
