Music in mayan ceremonies

The music was (and remains) an important aspect of mayan ceremonies. We have found several scenes of musicians represented on ceramics and murals. In this dish, we can see the profile of a trumpet player with suit ceremonial.

The trumpets were made of ceramic and wood, these trumpets are still in use at some ceremonies in the area of yucatán.

This type of shallow dish often associated with corn tamales or, sometimes, with venison, however, the conservation exceptional of this dish, in particular, can indicate that it is not used in banquet rituals, but that was prepared primarily as an offering of the funeral home.
