Monument plundered

This monument was plundered, and probably belonged to a door in The site ‘la Pasadita’ on the northwest of Guatemala.

It is a monument extremely eye-catching as it holds a large amount of pigment on the surface and gives us clues about the appearance of their original colors. ‘La Pasadita’, was an ally of Yaxchilan. The kings and queens of Yaxchilan were very inclined to the art and acted as a patron of several artistic projects, and also ensured that their allies put their palaces with the same artistic taste. We know of at least a dozen of reliefs of lintel related with Yaxchilan, most shows her ruling in the company of the local lord, which was a clear political statement.

Several of the lintels seem to be signed by an individual named Chakalte who seems to have been a famous sculptor who worked under the patronage of Shield Jaguar IV, which is known sent sculptors to the other lords provincial.
