Lintels as the image adorned the interior of many of the palaces Maya during the classic period, many of them were lost in time as they were commonly made of wood.
This lintel was found in the interior of the temple IV at Tikal (The temple of the serpent bicefala, image 6), and was transferred to Basel, Switzerland after being pillaged in the NINETEENTH century.
Represents the king Yik’in Chan K’awiil, one of the kings most famous of Tikal, seated in a palanquin, probably celebrating a military victory.
