This beautiful censer was found in the city of Palenque, and represents the Jaguar God of the Underworld, one of the main deities of the city.
This censer is similar to several, found buried in the foundations of the temples that make up the cross Group at Palenque.
The jaguar god of the underworld, is represented in an identical manner to the God of the Sun, but he added ears or elements of a jaguar, to show that it had the attributes at night. Each evening, the sun was hidden and was transformed into the jaguar god of the underworld.
