Alfred Percival Maudslay

Alfred Percival Maudslay was a british explorer of the NINETEENTH century, widely known for being one of the first europeans to explore extensively mayan archaeological sites.

In addition explorer, he was also a pioneer in the development of techniques of archaeological, during his expeditions are accompanied him constantly of experts to preserve and share their various findings. It was also, as we can see, a great photographer. His contribution to maya archaeology is invaluable.

Maudslay made a total of six expeditions to the mayan sites. The main places he visited were: Chichen Itza, Copan, Tikal, Ixkún and Palenque.

1-4: Quiriguá in Izabal, Guatemala
5-6: Tikal in the Peten, Guatemala
7-8: Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico
9-10: Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico.

The last photo is a self portrait within the temple of inscriptions at Palenque.
