The Temple of the masks, located in Petén was built in the Late Classic period under the mandate of Hasaw Cha’an Kawil. Served as a monument to his wife 12 Macaw, his portrait was in a lintel of the top of the temple.
This temple is used for ceremonies. It is called the Temple of the masks because the sides of the central staircase there are two masks.
In the first photo we can see that it could climb the central staircase, however some years ago they built a platform and stands are of wood so that the visitors could climb, thanks to this, unfortunately some visitors have dedicated themselves to alter the structure, this is what we see in the last picture.
