The omens of the gods ✨

The Dresden Codex is one of the few mayan codices that have survived to our days, and is a true treasure of knowledge.

This document is a fascinating and multi-faceted is a compendium of various topics, a kind of encyclopedia that covers calendars, mathematical calculations, and detailed descriptions of ceremonies and rituals and memorials. Its breadth and depth indicate to us that it was written over several years by a variety of people, each bringing their wisdom to this invaluable legacy.

The images you see in this publication belong to one of the almanacs, which is located at the beginning of the codex. This almanac is especially interesting, since it presents a strip with 24 deities, each carrying a wish different. The inscriptions tell us who the gods “did thunder clap his word,” after which he gives us one of his predictions.

It is very likely that this almanac had a character divinatory. Although we do not know with accuracy how it is used, it is likely that it will be used along with seeds holy scriptures, which are to be used by a spiritual guide, would coefficients mathematicians who gave a response based on the sacred calendar and its signs. There are echoes of this type of practices throughout Mesoamerica, and in particular, in the highlands of Guatemala.

What do you call attention to any deity in particular? Please leave us a comment with your choice and you will disclose the omen that corresponds to it!
