The ‘Church’ of Chichen Itza is one of the buildings most colorful of the city. It is a small building, in the so-called nunnery quadrangle. The spaniards, seeing this part of the city associated with a convent and the building in the publication associated with a chapel (hence its name). The building is a perfect style ‘chenes’, which is a kind of baroque maya. The feature that jumps out most of the view with this architectural style is that absolutely everything is decorated, there’s almost no space we can consider a vacuum on the entire structure. The entire building has masks, carvings, bas-reliefs, etc
It is decorated primarily by masks of Chaak, the rain God (image 4), to whom was dedicated the city, all of Chichen Itza is full of these masks, which demonstrates the need so great that they had the Yucatec mayas by rain and water.
