Snail subsection, carved and openwork, with remains of white stucco

The great pyramid is one of the structures most prominent of the archaeological site of Uxmal

Is a pyramid very interesting in that it shares some physical similarities with the temples of the distant cities of Tikal or Palenque, in spite of having been built in later years; which seems to indicate that it was a temple revered for being old, and by his connection with the ancient history.

The north facade was restored between 1972 and 1973. The top level is dated to the NINTH century. The ornamentation is done through a cornice with three elements that have three masks of Chaac, one over another, frets, and a decoration of birds, including parrots that are associated with the sun, and to give a name to the temple.
